Weekend Track Maintenance to Affect Metro's Red, Blue, Orange and Green Lines

Track maintenance and rail car testing on the Red, Blue Orange and Green lines this weekend (March 14-16) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Dupont Circle and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because of switch maintenance work at the Van Ness-UDC Metrorail station. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 9 p.m., Friday, March 14, to closing (midnight) Sunday, March 16. To help expedite rail travel, every other Red Line train traveling towards the Shady Grove Metrorail station will terminate at the Farragut North Metrorail station and return to the Glenmont Metrorail station and every other Red Line train traveling towards the Glenmont Metrorail station will terminate at the Friendship Heights Metrorail stations and return to the Shady Grove Metrorail station.

Orange Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the New Carrollton and Cheverly Metrorail stations on the Orange Line should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because of track maintenance. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16. To help expedite rail travel towards downtown Washington, every other Orange Line train traveling towards the New Carrollton Metrorail station, will terminate at the Cheverly Metrorail station return to the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station.

Blue and Orange Line Verizon Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the L’Enfant Plaza, Capitol South and Potomac Avenue Metrorail stations should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro is providing Verizon Wireless track access to conduct normal contractual maintenance and emergency work on its cables. Inbound and outbound trains will share one track between these locations from midnight to closing (3 a.m.), Saturday, March 15.

Green Line Rail Car Testing

Metrorail customers should add 10 to15 minutes of travel time on the Green Line for their trips because of new railcar testing. Inbound and outbound trains operating between the Greenbelt and College Park Metrorail stations will share one track while new trains are tested from 7 a.m. to closing (3 a.m.) on Saturday, March 15.

Green Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Branch Avenue and Suitland Metrorail stations on the Green Line should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because of track maintenance. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 10 p.m. to closing (midnight), Sunday, March 16.
