Metro offers commemorative one-day rail pass for papal visit


Deadline for online and bulk orders is April 4

The One Day Metrorail Mass Pass, good for unlimited travel on Thursday, April 17, the day of Pope Benedict XVI’s mass at Nationals Park, is available on Metro’s Web site and at Metro sales offices at Metro Center, the Pentagon Transit Center and Metro headquarters.

The $9 commemorative Mass Pass is a paper fare card that can be used for unlimited travel on Metrorail from the 5 a.m. opening to midnight closing on April 17 only.

The deadline for online orders and bulk orders is Friday, April 4. Customers can order up to 22 passes online and pay with a major credit card. To place a bulk order of more than 22 passes, call 202-962-5700. The Mass Pass will be available at Metro sales offices through April 17.

Purchasing the commemorative Mass Pass ahead of time will help Metro riders attending the10 a.m. mass at Nationals Park save time and avoid lines at farecard machines in stations.

To help mass attendees get to Nationals Park for the service by Metrorail or Metrobus, Metro has created a special Web site (www.wmata.com/papalvisit) and commemorative brochure. The Web site and brochure provide information about getting to the mass on bus and rail, purchasing the Mass Pass or regular fare cards, and parking. The brochure is available online and in Metro stations. In addition, a printable version of the brochure in Spanish and French can be found online.
