Metro recognized by global information technology awards foundation

A team of 12 Metro employees are in the running for a top international information technology award. Chris Moore and his team have been recognized as a Laureate by the Computerworld Honors Program.
For two decades, Computerworld Honors has acknowledged individuals and organizations that have used information technology to benefit society.

Moore, Chukwuma Mmeje and other team members purchased Palm Treo smartphones with their own money and developed a software application that could be used by rail supervisors, maintenance and elevator and escalator mechanics. The phones are a mobile office for dozens of Metro employees, saving time and paper and increasing productivity.

“I just wanted to provide a tool to make our supervisors more efficient and productive,” said Moore. “It’s a surprise and an honor to be recognized.”

The Computerworld Honors Program unites chairmen and CEOs of the world’s top information technology companies to recognize the most outstanding user achievements in technology each year. The technology achievements honored by this program are preserved and protected in national archives, and more than 350 universities, museums, and research institutions throughout the world.

Each year, members of the Chairmen's Committee, a group of 100 chairman/CEOs of global technology companies, nominates individuals and organizations around the world whose visionary applications of information technology promotes positive social and economic progress. Metro was one of the agencies nominated.

Independent of the Laureate recognition, the Computerworld Honors Program also annually presents its Leadership Awards, each designed to honor the extraordinary achievements of selected individuals whose positive contributions to the IT revolution have left an indelible mark on the world.

This year’s Honorees will be commemorated during the 20th Annual Laureates Medal Ceremony & Gala Awards Evening on June 2, 2008 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.
