Metrorail records third highest weekday ridership day 828,418 riders used Metrorail on Thursday, April 17

Hundreds of thousands of people helped Metro set the transit agency’s third highest ridership day in the history of the 32-year-old rail system on Thursday, April 17. Riders took 828,418 trips, which were 80,810 more trips than the same day last year. The Papal Mass at Nationals Park and the DC United soccer game contributed to Thursday’s high numbers.

This month, Metrorail weekday ridership has topped out at more than 800,000 riders on three occasions. Last Friday, April 11, there were 828,132 passenger trips recorded and there were 801,370 passenger trips taken on Wednesday, April 9.

Combined with Metrobus ridership, Metro provides more than 1.2 million trips on an average weekday.
