Metro Transit Police make arrest in multiple vehicle thefts

An Alexandria man is charged with stealing cars from Metro parking lots and garages and is under investigation for similar thefts elsewhere in the region.

Metro Transit Police arrested 20-year-old Brian Leonard Senia on Friday, April 18, for allegedly stealing three vehicles owned by Zipcar from Metrorail station parking lots in Alexandria and Fairfax County. Senia was out on bond awaiting trial on a previous charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the City of Alexandria at the time of his arrest.

Metro Transit Police received a tip that lead to the arrest of Senia by the department’s Auto Theft Unit.

“We are aggressive about catching car thieves,” said Capt. David Webb, of Metro’s Criminal Investigation Division. “We also encourage anyone who sees suspicious activity in our parking lots and garages to call Metro Transit Police at 202-962-2121.”

Police say Senia stole the vehicles from the Braddock Road, King Street and Franconia-Springfield rail station parking lots.  He allegedly went joyriding with friends before abandoning the vehicles.  Other police departments have been alerted to the thefts, and Senia is under investigation for possible thefts of other cars throughout the area.  Zipcar is a car sharing program with locations around the region, including 39 Metro parking garages and lots.
