Metrobus Routes U5 and U6 to be rerouted

Metrobus routes U5 and U6 will be rerouted beginning Sunday, May 4.

Metro is establishing a new U5 route to operate along the same route as the U6, except the U5 will operate directly via Ridge Road, SE, rather than turning on 37th Street and Ely Place, SE. The U5 Metrobus that currently runs between Plummer Elementary School and Ridge Road and Anacostia Road, SE, will be changed to a U6.

Every other U6 Metrobus that runs before 10 p.m. and all U6 Metrobuses that run after 10 p.m. on weekdays and weekends will be changed to the new U5 route.

Buses will continue to run every 15 to 20 minutes where the U5 and U6 run along the same route. Where the routes divide, buses will run every 30 to 40 minutes.

The change in service is supported by the District of Columbia Department of Transportation and by the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 7A.

U5 Mayfair-Marshall Heights Line

The bus will operate its regular route to the intersection of Ridge Road and 37th Street, SE, then continue on Ridge Road to the south intersection with Ely Place, then continue on Ridge Road and regular route through Marshall Heights and Lincoln Heights and back to the intersection of Ridge Road and Ely Place, SE, then continue Ridge Road to the intersection with 37th Street, then continue Ridge Road and its regular route.
