Metro to Open at 5 a.m. Saturday for Race for the Cure

Race participants on Yellow/Green lines should add 30 minutes to travel time

Metrorail will open at 5 a.m., two hours early, to accommodate runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators for the 19th Annual Komen National Race for the Cure on Saturday, June 7. Due to track work on the Yellow and Green Line, individuals using those lines should add at least 30 minutes of their travel schedule. The race, held in downtown Washington, D.C., begins at 8 a.m. with several events prior to the start.

Metrorail trains will operate every 12 to 15 minutes on the Red, Blue and Orange lines starting at 5 a.m.

Race participants traveling on the Yellow and Green lines should add at least 30 extra minutes into their travel plans due to switch replacement work at the Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail station. Yellow Line trains from the Huntington Metrorail station and Green Line trains from the Branch Avenue Metrorail station will depart every 24 minutes. All Green and Yellow Line trains from the Greenbelt Metrorail station will leave every 12 minutes.

Participants attending the 6:45 a.m., pre-race rally should use the Federal Center SW Metrorail station on the Orange and Blue lines, or the Judiciary Square Metrorail station on the Red Line. Participants arriving for the 8 and 8:15 a.m. race starting times should use the Metro Center Metrorail station on the Red, Orange and Blue lines, Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter on the Green and Yellow lines or the Federal Triangle Metrorail station on the Orange and Blue lines.

Metrorail riders should load enough money on their SmarTrip cards or farecards for their round trip in advance of the race or when they first enter the system. The Smithsonian, Federal Center SW, and Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter Metrorail stations are expected to be among the busiest stations on race day, so riders should consider exiting or entering at other nearby, less crowded stations such as the Metro Center, L’Enfant Plaza or Union Station Metrorail stations.
