Anacostia elevator to be rehabilitated

Shuttle bus service will be available during 10-week project

The platform elevator at the Anacostia Metrorail station will be closed beginning on June 11. The elevator is being modernized and the work will take 10 weeks. The elevator is expected to return to service in September.

Free shuttle buses from the Navy Yard Station will be available to customers upon request. Metrorail riders who normally enter or exit at the Anacostia Metrorail station and are unable to use the escalator should call 202-962-1825.

An elevator modernization includes replacing a majority of the mechanical parts and elevator cab equipment with new ones to ensure the elevator operates safely and reliably for customers, and extends the life of the elevator.
