Metrorail records second highest weekday ridership day

846,388 riders used Metrorail on Wednesday, June 25

Hundreds of thousands of people helped Metro set the transit agency’s second highest ridership day in the history of the 32-year-old rail system on Wednesday, June 25. Riders took 846,388 trips, which were 68,025 more trips than the same comparable day last year. The Smithsonian Folk Life Festival and the Washington Nationals game contributed to Wednesday’s high numbers.

Since April of this year, Metrorail weekday ridership has cracked the top 14 highest ridership days in Metrorail history on 11 separate occasions. Combined with Metrobus ridership, Metro provides more than 1.2 million trips on an average weekday.
