Metro News Release

For immediate release: July 4, 2008

New Metro audiocast available online

The newest Metro audiocast, dated July 3, is now available to customers on www.metroopensdoors.com and on iTunes. “On Track” offers listeners a summary of Metro-related news for the week, and provides an overview of how planned maintenance work or major events in the region may impact their weekend travel.

The holiday edition of “On Track” tells listeners about special July 4 service plans. Festivities on the National Mall are expected to result in large crowds in the Metro system. Metrorail will be open from 7 a.m. Friday, July 4, to 3 a.m. Saturday, July 5. However, Smithsonian Metrorail station will be closed due to security reasons.

No major Metrorail track work is planned for the weekend and no bus detours are scheduled. Because construction projects and event schedules can change, stay up to date on detours and delays by visiting www.metroopensdoors.com. Go to the left-hand toolbar, scroll over “Alerts and Advisories” and click on “Service Disruptions” to view the full list.

The audiocast also includes information about elevator rehabilitation projects and upcoming sporting events such as the Washington Mystics basketball games on July 6 and 8 at the Verizon Center and the DC United soccer game on July 12 at RFK Stadium. The Washington Nationals play ball July 8-12 at Nationals Park. Tuesday, July 8, is Metro night at the ballpark and Metro’s General Manager John B. Catoe, Jr. will throw out the first pitch. Commemorative Nationals SmarTrip® cards will be available for purchase throughout the game.

Listeners can send comments and suggestions for future audiocasts to ontrack@wmata.com.

Online users can download audiocasts from Metro’s Web site and listen on their computers or MP3 devices. The Metro audiocast is available on iTunes. Search the podcast area of the iTune store for “On Track” in the title. Podcasts can be subscribed to on iTunes to automatically receive each week’s downloads.
