Free rides on certain Metrobus routes on Friday due to Code Red alert

Free fares will be in effect on designated Metrobus routes in Maryland and Virginia, on Friday, July 18, because Friday has been designated a Code Red Day by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG). Air quality is expected to be unhealthy in the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan areas.

Customers who see a Code Red bag placed over the bus farebox will ride free.

The cost of Code Red free ride days in Maryland and Virginia is paid for by those jurisdictions. This does not include the District of Columbia. However, some of the routes that originate in Maryland and Virginia operate into the District of Columbia. Those rides will be free.

For more information on traveling by Metrobus or Metrorail, customers should call (202)-637-7000 or TTY (202)-638-3780.
