Cracked rail near Takoma Metrorail station slows Red Line service

A cracked rail discovered at 9:44 a.m. near the Takoma Metrorail station is causing mid-day delays on the Red Line.

While Metro track crews make repairs, Red Line trains are sharing a single track between the Fort Totten and Silver Spring Metrorail stations. Every other train heading toward Glenmont is terminating at the Brookland-CUA Metrorail station to head back into downtown Washington, D.C. and on to Shady Grove. Riders can experience delays up to 20 minutes.

Metro expects to complete the repair by early afternoon.
