Fire interrupts Red Line service at Metro Center

Red Line service through Metro Center was halted for about 20 minutes this morning (Thursday, August 14) from about 7:15 to 7:35 a.m. after a report of a small fire was reported on the tracks headed in the direction of Glenmont. Once the fire was extinguished, trains shared the other track between Judiciary Square and Dupont Metrorail stations to help move riders through the affected area.

Red Line riders can expect major delays throughout the remainder of the morning until the affected track is cleared.

Free shuttle buses will be available at Farragut North, Gallery Place-Chinatown and Metro Center to help move riders around the incident. Riders can expect long waits for buses as they must travel through rush hour traffic. Additionally, one trainload of customers has approximately 800 passengers on board, and a shuttle bus can only carry about 50 passengers.

Metro Center also serves the Orange and Blue Lines.
