Telephone threat at McPherson Square Metrorail Station impacted afternoon travel

Metrorail riders who usually enter the McPherson Square Metrorail station on the Blue and Orange Lines may have been inconvenienced briefly this afternoon following a telephone threat to the station at 3:50 p.m. Transit Police responded and were not able to identify any danger to riders. An unattended package was discovered inside the station, but it contained nothing harmful.

Trains continued to service the station to let passengers off the trains, but no customers were allowed to enter the station until the package was deemed safe at 4:27 p.m.

Metro Transit Police have stepped up security this week, the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
