Metro ready for a Washington sports weekend

Extra trains for fans after basketball, hockey, soccer and football games

Metro officials will have extra trains available to get fans home from this weekend's basketball, hockey, soccer and football games in the Washington region.

The weekend's sporting events start off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, with the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center. On Saturday, Oct. 11, the Washington Capitals play at the Verizon Center and Team USA hosts Cuba in a soccer match at RFK Stadium. Both games start at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 12, the Washington Redskins play at FedEx Field at 1 p.m.

After the games, Metro will have additional six-car and eight-car trains available for patrons traveling from the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail stations on the Red, Yellow and Green lines, the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station on the Blue and Orange lines, and the Largo Town Center and Morgan Boulevard Metrorail stations on the Blue Line.

Fans attending the Wizards and Capitals games at the Verizon Center are encouraged to use the other Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station entrances at 9th and G Street, NW, and 7th and H Street, NW, or to use the Judiciary Square station at 5th and F Street, NW, to avoid the crowds expected at the 7th and F Street entrance.

Fans headed to and from the Team USA soccer game are reminded to use both entrances at the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station-19th Street and Independence Avenue, SE, closest to RFK Stadium and 19th Street between C and Burke streets, SE, two blocks away.

Fans attending the Redskins game should take the Blue Line to the Morgan Boulevard Metrorail station and walk less than a mile to the stadium.

Metro will have additional station managers, rail supervisors and Transit Police officers at the Gallery Place-Chinatown, Stadium-Armory and Morgan Boulevard Metrorail stations to assist customers.

Upon entering the Metrorail system, all fans should purchase enough value on their farecards or SmarTrip cards for their round-trip travel.
