Man fatally struck by train at Suitland Metrorail station

Trains sharing one track between Naylor Road and Branch Avenue

Suitland Metrorail station has reopened after it was temporarily closed for about 45 minutes this afternoon while police investigated a fatal accident in which a man was struck by a train earlier this morning (October 10).

Metrorail trains are sharing one track, or single-tracking, from Branch Avenue to Naylor Road Metrorail stations on the Green Line.

Riders can expect delays of up to 15 minutes headed in both directions through the area of the single-tracking. The disruption is expected to continue until mid-afternoon.

A six-car train headed in the direction of Branch Avenue struck the man at 11:52 a.m. The station closed at 12:22 p.m. and reopened at 1 p.m. Free shuttle buses were available while the station was closed. Customers experienced major delays.

Metro Transit Police and Prince George’s County fire fighters are on the scene investigating the incident. The preliminary investigation indicates that the individual was on the tracks intentionally.
