Normal rail service resumes on Green Line


Man fatally struck by train at Suitland Metrorail station

Normal train service has resumed on the Green Line, three hours after a man was fatally struck by a train at the Suitland Metrorail station.

A six-car train headed in the direction of Branch Avenue hit the man at 11:52 a.m. The preliminary investigation indicates that the man was on the tracks intentionally.

The station closed at 12:22 p.m. and reopened at 1 p.m. Trains shared a single track before and after the closure until 2:52 p.m. between Branch Avenue and Naylor Road stations while emergency crews were at the scene.

Free shuttle buses were available during the disruption. Customers experienced major delays.

Metro Transit Police and Prince George’s County firefighters responded to the scene.
