Riders' Advisory Council seeks new members

Applications are due at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 7

Metro's Riders' Advisory Council is looking for riders to fill eight available positions on the volunteer Council. Council positions are available for Arlington County, District of Columbia and Prince George's County residents. In addition, two at-large positions need to be filled.

The 21-member Council is made up of six individuals each from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, two at-large members and the Chairman of Metro's Elderly and Disabled Transportation Advisory Committee. The Council advises the agency's Board of Directors. It was created in December 2005 as part of a series of initiatives to improve communications with riders.

Metro is looking for people who ride Metrobus, Metrorail and/or MetroAccess and are not Metro employees, contractors or elected officials to apply. All positions are unpaid. Metro's Board will appoint the final candidates in December.

Individuals on the Riders' Advisory Council represent a cross-section of the entire region. The Council includes people with different riding patterns, people who use Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess, transit-dependent people, people with disabilities, people who travel short distances and others who travel long distances.

Anyone interested in applying should visit www.wmata.com/riding/rac_application.cfm and complete the online form. Applicants also may print, complete and mail an application or pick one up at Metro sales offices at Metro Center, the Pentagon Transit Center and Metro headquarters, 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, DC. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Friday, November 7.
