Metro announces its November weekend track maintenance schedule

Metro curtails track maintenance during Thanksgiving holiday

In November, as part of its track rehabilitation and renewal program, Metro will replace rail fasteners, make bridge repairs, upgrade sections of track, replace floating slabs and conduct switch replacement work on the Red, Blue, Orange and Green lines. This maintenance work will involve trains sharing one track on each of these lines resulting in delays of 20 to 25 minutes. However, track work will be suspended during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

“With the Thanksgiving weekend the busiest travel season of the year, we decided to curtail maintenance work,” said Dave Kubicek, Metro’s Assistant General Manager for Metrorail. “We want our rail riders to leave their cars at home and use Metro to get to the airport, train station or local shopping center.”

Metro encourages riders to check its Web site at www.metroopensdoors.com at the end of each month to see the following month’s schedule of work. Metro will continue to post news releases each Thursday as a reminder to provide updates about any last minute track maintenance schedule changes.
