Neil Albert Sworn in as Metro Board Member

D.C. official joins Metro Board

Neil O. Albert, District of Columbia’s Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, was sworn in today as D.C’s newest voting representative to the Metro Board of Directors.

Albert is filling the slot on the Metro Board that was vacated when Emeka Moneme announced last July he was resigning as the District’s transportation department director to become Metro’s chief administrative officer. Moneme had served on the Board since February 2007.

As Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, Albert is responsible for executing Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s economic development strategy and managing the development of public-private housing, retail, office and parks projects throughout the District. Albert is also responsible for the District’s efforts to create and preserve affordable housing and he oversees the District’s business attraction and retention initiatives.

Before joining the Fenty administration in 2007, Albert was co-founder and CEO of EdBuild, an educational services firm working to increase the number of high-performing schools in the District. He spent five years as a senior member of former Washington Mayor Anthony A. Williams’s administration and held a number of senior level positions in the public and private sector in New York City.
