Metro's Smithsonian Metrorail station closed Inauguration Day

Customers advised to use other stations that day

The Smithsonian Metrorail station on the Blue and Oranges lines will be closed Inauguration Day, Tuesday, January 20, 2009, for security reasons.

Originally, one of the two station entrances was going to remain open, but now the entire station (both entrances) will remain closed.

Metro encourages people traveling to the Inauguration swearing-in ceremony to use other stations such as the Farragut North, Farragut West, Metro Center, McPherson Square, L’Enfant Plaza, Gallery Pl-Chinatown, Judiciary Square, Union Station, Federal Center SW, Capitol South or Eastern Market Metrorail stations.

People can also sign up for special e-alerts, dedicated to the Inauguration, on Metro’s Web site at http://www.wmata.com/inauguration. E-alerts will be issued when Metro has news relating to service for the Inauguration, and, perhaps more importantly, when there may be service disruptions during the course of the four-day Inauguration Weekend.
