Red Line delays due to cracked rail

Delays to last through the evening

Riders on the Red Line can expect delays up to a half hour throughout the evening, Friday, January 9, due to a cracked rail that was discovered on the outbound track approaching the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metrorail station.

Trains are sharing one track between Woodley Park and Van Ness-UDC Metrorail stations with delays in both directions. The cracked rail was discovered just after 4 p.m.

Track repair crews are on the scene working to fix the problem. Delays are expected to last through the evening. Metro riders also can use the L2 Metrobus which travels along Connecticut Avenue as an alternative. However, riders are advised a Metro train can carry about 1,000 versus a Metrobus which can carry about 50 people.
