Metro sets its February weekend track maintenance schedule

Pentagon Metrorail station closed during President's Day weekend

In February, Metro will undertake a major track rehabilitation project that will close the Pentagon (Blue/Yellow Line) Metrorail station during the President’s Day holiday weekend, replace rail fasteners on the Red Line, and replace a rail switch on the Green and Yellow lines to upkeep the tracks and help ensure good Metrorail service. Customers should expect significant travel delays during these select times.

Friday, February 6, to Sunday, February 8

Red Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the Silver Spring and Forest Glen Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because personnel will replace rail fasteners that stabilize the rail tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., Friday, February 6, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, February 8.

Friday, February 13, to Monday, February 16

Blue and Yellow Line - Metro will undertake a major track rehabilitation project on the Blue and Yellow Line that will close the Pentagon Metrorail station for three days from Friday night, February 13 to midnight, Monday, February 16. Metrorail will operate special service on the Blue, Yellow and Green lines and will provide free shuttle bus service between the Pentagon City, Pentagon, and L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail stations to get riders around the closure.

Metro personnel will replace rail switches, fasteners and stud bolts at the Pentagon Metrorail station from 10 p.m., Friday, February 13 to midnight, Monday, February 16. A rail switch or “interlocking” is an intersection in the track, where trains “switch” from one track to another. This work must be done to ensure service quality and safe operation through the Pentagon Metrorail station.

Friday, February 20 to Sunday, February 22
