D.C. Council member joins governing body

District of Columbia’s Council Member Michael A. Brown, (I-At Large), was sworn in today as a D.C.’s newest representative on the Metro Board of Directors.

Newly-elected Brown is filling the alternate director position on the Metro Board that was vacated by D.C. Council Member Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) last year. He joins D.C. Council Member and Metro Board Chair Jim Graham (D-Ward 1), Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Neil Albert and Anthony Giancola in representing the District of Columbia on the 12-member regional Board. Brown cannot vote at full board meetings, but he can vote at committee meetings.

Brown has served on the boards of several local organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club and the Whitman Walker Clinic. He is the managing director for government affairs at Edwards, Angell, Palmer & Dodge, a corporate law firm.

Brown is the son of former Clinton administration Commerce Secretary Ron Brown, who also served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
