McPherson Square Metrorail station temporarily closed

Burned-out cable caused smoke inside station

The McPherson Square Metrorail station is temporarily closed (Monday, Feb. 2) due to a cable located in an ancillary room that burned out, causing smoke to accumulate inside the station. All Blue and Orange Line trains are turning back at Farragut West and Federal Triangle Metrorail stations, so there is no Orange or Blue Line service to both McPherson Square and Metro Center Metrorail stations at this time. The incident began at 11:48 a.m.

Customers can expect major delays of more than 40 minutes on the Orange and Blue Lines until the station reopens.

Free shuttle buses are moving people around the incident, but customers should please keep in mind that a full train can carry 800 to 1,000 people, but a full bus carries only about 50 people.
