Metro Transit Police officer injured in hit-and-run accident


Police are looking for dark-colored Honda Accord

An on-duty Metro Transit Police officer was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Monday, Feb. 2, when his motorcycle was struck from the rear by a car that fled the scene.

The Metro Transit Police and Maryland State Police are currently investigating the incident, and are seeking the public’s assistance in finding the driver of the vehicle. The preliminary investigation indicates that the hit-and-run vehicle is a 1998 to 2002-model dark-colored, possibly green, Honda Accord.

Monday’s accident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on the Capital Beltway Inner loop near Pennsylvania Avenue in Prince George’s County, Md. According to witness accounts, the officer was struck by a car from the rear and ejected from his motorcycle, subsequently landing in the center of I-495. The driver of the striking vehicle dragged the officer’s motorcycle several feet before fleeing the scene.

The officer, who has been with Metro Transit Police since 2004, suffered non-life threatening injuries, and was treated and released from a local hospital.
