Alexa Dupigny-Samuels appointed Metro's Chief Safety Officer

Alexa Dupigny-Samuels has been appointed Chief Safety Officer for Metro to lead the agency’s efforts to become the safest transit agency in the nation.

The Chief Safety Officer oversees Metro’s Department of System Safety, which includes operational system safety, passenger and vehicle safety, environmental safety and health, and safety training.

Dupigny-Samuels has more than 15 years of engineering and management experience, and has been with Metro since 2001. Most recently, she served as the project manager for the WorkSafe Initiative, a five-year safety improvement program to develop best practices and reduce the number of third party incidents and workers’ compensation injuries.

Dupigny-Samuels earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Howard University and a master’s degree in quality systems management from the National Graduate School. She is a member of the American Public Transportation Association’s risk management committee, an associate staff training instructor for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Safety Institute and a graduate of the ENO Center for Transit Leadership.
