Normal rail service resumes on Blue and Orange lines

Man fatally struck at McPherson Square

Normal rail service resumed on the Blue and Orange lines at 4:07 p.m., about three hours after a man was fatally struck by a train.

A six-car Blue Line train headed toward Franconia-Springfield hit the man at 1:16 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicates that the man was on the tracks intentionally.

Blue and Orange riders faced major delays in the afternoon while emergency crews responded. The McPherson Square Metrorail station was closed throughout the incident. In addition, Blue and Orange line trains did not service Farragut West or Metro Center.

Metro ran free shuttle bus service from the Foggy Bottom Metrorail station to the Federal Triangle Metrorail station to help passengers around the incident area.
