Metro News Release

For immediate release: April 10, 2009

New Metro audiocast available online

The newest Metro audiocast, dated April 10, is now available on www.metroopensdoors.com and iTunes. “On Track” offers listeners a summary of Metro-related news for the week and provides an overview of how planned maintenance work or major events in the region may impact weekend travel.

This edition of “On Track” tells listeners about scheduled bus detours in Falls Church and Crystal City. No Metrorail track work is scheduled for the weekend due to the large number of special events going on in the Washington region, including the National Cherry Blossom Festival. To stay up to date on unplanned closings, detours and delays, visit www.metroopensdoors.com and check out the “Metro Service Status” box or sign up for eAlerts in the lower left corner of the page.

The audiocast also tells listeners about upcoming public hearings in the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland and northern Virginia to receive the public’s input on Metro’s proposed budget, including $13.5 million in proposed Metrobus service cuts and adjustments that would take effect at the end of June.

There is also information about sporting events, including the NCAA Frozen Four ice hockey tournament today and Saturday, the Washington Nationals baseball games on Monday and Wednesday, and the Washington Wizards basketball game on Monday.

Online users can download audiocasts from Metro’s Web site and listen on their computers or MP3 devices. The Metro audiocast is available on iTunes. Search the podcast area of the iTunes store for “On Track” in the title. Podcasts can be subscribed to on iTunes and users automatically receive each week’s downloads.
