Track maintenance to affect Metro's Red and Orange lines this weekend

Red and Orange Line customers should add 30 minutes of travel time this weekend

Track maintenance on the Red and Orange lines this weekend (April 17-19) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time because of switch replacement work through the Brentwood rail yards. A switch is an intersection in the track where trains can “switch” from one track to another, depending on their destination and route. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, April 17, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, April 19.

To help expedite rail travel, every other Red Line train in the direction of the Glenmont Metrorail station will terminate at the Judiciary Square Metrorail station and return to the Shady Grove Metrorail station between 7 a.m., and 9:30 p.m., on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19.

Orange Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time because personnel will replace crossties, the track support structures. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturday, April 18.

To help expedite rail travel, every other Orange Line train in the direction of the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station will terminate at the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station and return to the New Carrollton Metrorail station.
