MetroAccess customers soon can prepay for trips with a credit/debit card

EZ-Pay allows customers to prepay their fare by phone or Internet

Metro is making it easier for MetroAccess customers to pay their fare with EZ-Pay, a new electronic system that allows customers to prepay for trips by phone or the Internet using a credit or debit card.

Starting Friday, May 1, customers can call or go online to access their MetroAccess EZ-Pay account and prepay their MetroAccess fare with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover card.

The fare is deducted immediately from a customer’s EZ-Pay account when a customer books a trip. If the customer subsequently cancels the trip, the fare is refunded to the account immediately.

“With EZ-Pay, customers can travel on MetroAccess without the need to carry cash, tokens or other fare media,” said Christian T. Kent, Assistant General Manager of Access Services. “We still accept those methods of payment, but we hope customers will take advantage of this cashless-fare system that will help speed their trips and allow drivers to keep focused on safety and customer satisfaction.”

In addition to being able to add money to their EZ-Pay account, customers can keep track of the balance on the account and view trips they’ve scheduled and taken. MetroAccess customer service representatives also can provide EZ-Pay account information when customers call to schedule a trip.

To access MetroAccess EZ-Pay by phone, customers should call MetroAccess at 301-562-5360, select option 6 and then option 4. By Internet, customers should go to http://www.wmata.com/accessibility/metroaccess_service/ and select the link at the bottom of the page to “Login to Your MetroAccess Account.”

Login information is the same for customers accessing the system by phone or Internet. The login is the MetroAccess customer’s ID number. The default password is the customer’s eight-digit date of birth.

Metro plans to mail a brochure, that includes step-by-step instructions on how to use EZ-Pay, to all current MetroAccess customers.
