Track maintenance to affect Metro's Blue, Yellow and Red lines this weekend

Blue, Yellow and Red Line customers should add 20 to 30 minutes of travel time this weekend

Track maintenance on the Blue, Yellow and Red lines this weekend (May 1-3) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track, and customers should add an additional 20 to 30 minutes of travel time to their trips.

Blue and Yellow Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers on the southern end of the Blue and Yellow Line traveling between the Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street and Huntington Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time because of switch and fastener replacement outside the King Street Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, May 1, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, May 3.

All Yellow Line trains will operate every 15 minutes between the Huntington and Greenbelt Metrorail stations.

Blue Line trains will operate every 12 to 15 minutes in two sections throughout the day. The Blue Line will operate between the Franconia-Springfield and King Street stations and between the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Largo Town Center Metrorail stations. Blue line trains will not service the Braddock Road Metrorail station.

Metrorail customers who park at Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street Metrorail stations and wish to avoid the delays should consider parking at the Huntington Metrorail station.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U and Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail stations should add 20 minutes of travel time because of switch replacement work through the Brentwood rail yard near Union Station. A switch is an intersection in the track, where trains can “switch” from one track to another, depending on their destination and route. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, May 1, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, May 3.

To help expedite rail travel, every other Red Line train in the direction of the Glenmont Metrorail station will terminate at the Judiciary Square Metrorail station and return to the Shady Grove Metrorail station between 7 a.m., and 9:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3.
