Metro' Green and Blue lines preparing to handle crowds attending 2009 Andrews Air Force Base Open House and Air Show

Free shuttle bus service from Branch Avenue Metrorail Station

Metro anticipates large crowds riding the Green Line to the Branch Avenue Metrorail station and the Blue Line to Morgan Boulevard Metrorail station this weekend for the Andrews Air Force Base Open House and Air Show on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17. Free shuttle bus service will be available from the Branch Avenue Metrorail station HOV parking lot and FedEx Field for people attending the air show.

To ensure that shuttle buses have the necessary parking spaces available this weekend, all vehicles must be cleared from the Branch Avenue Metrorail station HOV parking lot by 8 p.m., on Friday, May 15. Vehicles parked in the Branch Avenue Metrorail station HOV parking lot after 8 p.m., on Friday, May 15, will be subject to ticketing and/or towing.

People attending the Air Show are reminded of these travel tips:

Customers are encouraged to purchase the $7.80 One-Day Pass, a round-trip farecard or SmarTrip card to and from the Branch Avenue Metrorail station when first entering the Metrorail system to avoid long lines on the return trip.

Metro encourages patrons not to bring coolers, backpacks, food or drink items to the event, because those items are not permitted on the Air Force Base.

Parking at Metro owned-and operated lots is free on weekends.

Customers are encouraged to call Metro for more information about riding Metrorail or Metrobus at (202) 637-7000 or TTY (202) 638-3780. Customers can also log on to Metro’s Web site at www.metroopensdoors.com.
