Metro sets its June weekend track maintenance schedule

Weekend track maintenance on all five lines in June

In June, Metro will replace a rail switch on the Red Line, replace cross ties and fasteners on the Red and Orange line tracks, replace rail on the Green Line, and conduct bridge repair work on the Blue and Orange lines to upkeep the tracks and help ensure reliable Metrorail service. Customers should expect significant travel delays during these weekends.

Friday, June 5, to Sunday, June 7

Red Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U and Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail stations should add 20 minutes of travel time because of switch replacement work through the Brentwood rail yard near Union Station. A switch is an intersection in the track, where trains can “switch” from one track to another, depending on their destination and route. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, June 5, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, June 7.

Orange Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the Stadium-Armory and Cheverly Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips due to bridge maintenance on the aerial structure outside the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7.

Friday, June 12, to Sunday, June 14

Red Line – Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Ness-UDC and Dupont Circle Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks and Metro will make tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, June 12, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, June 14.

Blue Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Dorn Street and Braddock Road Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will be tamping the rail tracks to ensure durability. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14.

Friday, June 19, to Sunday, June 21

Orange Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes of travel time because Metro will replace crossties, the track support structures. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, June 19, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, June 21.

Blue Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Dorn Street and Braddock Road Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will be tamping the rail tracks to ensure durability. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21.

Friday, June 26, to Sunday, June 28

Red Line – Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Ness-UDC and Dupont Circle Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will make tunnel repairs and replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks.
