New Metro audiocast available online

The newest Metro audiocast, dated June 12, is now available on www.metroopensdoors.com and iTunes. “On Track” offers listeners a summary of Metro-related news for the week and provides an overview of how planned maintenance work or major events in the region may impact weekend travel.

This edition of “On Track” tells listeners about track work that will cause delays on the Red and Blue lines this weekend. To stay up to date on unplanned closings, detours and delays, visit www.metroopensdoors.com and check out the “Metro Service Status” box or sign up for eAlerts in the lower left corner of the page.

The audiocast tells listeners about National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 18. Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the day encourages people to ride public transportation to save money, protect the environment and reduce their dependence on foreign oil.

There is also information about jazz and film festivals, including the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival with concerts at various locations in the District of Columbia through June 15, the Takoma Park Jazz Fest on Sunday, June 14, the 2009 Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival and free outdoor movies at the Capitol Riverfront and Crystal City throughout the summer.

This week’s audiocast includes details about other events such as SILVERDOCS, a documentary film festival June 15 through 22 in Silver Spring, Md., and Sounds in the Square free concerts every Thursday night through July 23 at Farragut Square Park in Washington, D.C. There is also information about sporting events such as the Washington Mystics basketball game on June 20 and Washington Nationals baseball games June 19 through 21.

Online users can download audiocasts from Metro’s Web site and listen on their computers or MP3 devices. The Metro audiocast is available on iTunes. Search the podcast area of the iTunes store for “On Track” in the title. Podcasts can be subscribed to on iTunes and users automatically receive each week’s downloads.
