Metro sets July weekend track maintenance schedule


Track maintenance scheduled for all rail lines in July

In July, Metro will replace rail, cross ties, fasteners, floating slabs, and make repairs to its aerial structures to upkeep the tracks and help ensure reliable Metrorail service. Customers should expect significant travel delays during these weekends.

Friday, July 10, to Sunday, July 12

Red Line – Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Ness-UDC and Dupont Circle Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks and make tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, July 10, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, July 12.

Red Line – Metrorail customers traveling between the Silver Spring and Forest Glen Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes of travel time to their trips because Metro will be making tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, July 10, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, July 12.

Orange Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations should add 30 minutes of travel time because Metro will replace crossties, the track support structures. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., Friday, July 10, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, July 12.

Blue and Yellow Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Dorn Street (Blue Line), Huntington (Yellow Line) and Braddock Road Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will be tamping the rail tracks to ensure durability. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12.

Friday, July 17, to Sunday, July 19

Red Line – Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will replace rail and rail fasteners that stabilize tracks and make tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, July 17, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, July 19.

Orange Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time because Metro will replace crossties, the track support structures. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., Friday, July 17, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, July 19.

Blue and Yellow Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Dorn Street (Blue Line), Huntington (Yellow Line) and Braddock Road Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will be tamping the rail tracks to ensure durability. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19.

Friday, July 24, to Sunday, July 26

Blue Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will be replacing floating slabs, the concrete support structures underneath the tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, July 24, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, July 26.

Friday, July 31, to Sunday, August 2

Red Line – Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will replace rail and rail fasteners that stabilize tracks and make tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, July 31, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, August 2.

Green Line – Metrorail customers traveling between the U Street/African-Amer Civil War Memorial/Cardozo and Georgia Ave-Petworth Metrorail stations should add 20 minutes of travel time because of rail replacement. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., Friday, July 31, to 6 p.m., on Sunday, August 2.

Blue and Orange Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will conduct maintenance on the aerial structure outside the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2.

Blue and Yellow Line - Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Dorn Street (Blue Line), Huntington (Yellow Line) and Braddock Road Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will be tamping the rail tracks to ensure durability. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2.
