Metro readies for Saturday's Billy Joel/Elton John concert at Nationals Park

Extra trains and personnel on the Green Line

Washingtonians who are in a “New York State of Mind,” or who are looking for a little “Philadelphia Freedom,” are encouraged to ride Metrorail to see Billy Joel and Elton John perform in concert this Saturday, July 11, at Nationals Park.

In anticipation of large crowds, Metro will operate additional eight-car trains on the Green Line leading up to the start of the concert. Additional personnel will be on hand at the Navy Yard Metrorail station on the Green Line, which is just one block away from Nationals Park.

Upon conclusion of the concert, Metro will deploy eight-car shuttle trains that will operate between the Navy Yard and Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St Convention Center Metrorail station.

Customer Reminders:

• People should expect to be waiting in long lines to get back into the Navy Yard Metrorail station after the concert, perhaps an hour or more.

• Metro encourages people to buy their round-trip fare card or have enough money on their SmarTrip when first entering the rail system to avoid standing in long lines after the concert.

• This weekend, Metro has track maintenance scheduled on the Red, Orange, Blue and Yellow lines. People should add at least 30 minutes of travel time to their trips because of this work.

• Parking at all Metrorail station facilities is free on the weekends.
