Weekend track maintenance to affect Metro's Red, Orange, Blue and Yellow lines
Red, Orange, Blue and Yellow Line customers should add 30 minutes of time this weekend
Track maintenance on the Red, Orange, Blue and Yellow lines this weekend (July 10-12) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track. Customers should add 30 minutes of time to their trips.
As result of last month’s train accident on the Red Line, weekend track maintenance originally scheduled between Silver Spring and Forest Glen has been cancelled. This maintenance work will be rescheduled for a later date.
Red Line Track Maintenance
Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Ness-UDC and Dupont Circle Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks and Metro will make tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, July 10, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, July 12.
On Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, all Red Line trains will operate every 17 minutes between the Shady Grove and Glenmont Metrorail stations. Additionally, from 9 a.m., to 9 p.m., Red Line trains will also operate between the Farragut North and Silver Spring Metrorail stations.
Orange Line Track Maintenance
Metrorail customers traveling between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations should add 30 minutes of travel time because Metro will replace crossties, the track support structures. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., Friday, July 10, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, July 12.
To expedite rail travel into downtown Washington, every other Orange Line traveling in the direction of the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station, will terminate at the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station and return to the New Carrollton Metrorail station.
Blue and Yellow Line Track Maintenance
Metrorail customers traveling between the Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street (Blue Line) and Huntington (Yellow Line) Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will be tamping the rail tracks to ensure durability. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12.
All Yellow Line trains will operate every 12 to 14 minutes during the day between the Huntington and Greenbelt Metrorail stations.
Blue Line trains will operate every 12 to 15 minutes in two sections throughout the day. The Blue Line will operate between the Franconia-Springfield and King Street stations and between the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Largo Town Center Metrorail stations. Blue line trains will not service the Braddock Road Metrorail station.
Metrorail customers who park at Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street Metrorail stations and wish to avoid the delays should consider parking at the Huntington Metrorail station.
