Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station enhancement endorsed

A new stairwell from the mezzanine to the platform to be constructed

A new staircase at the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station was endorsed by Metro’s Finance, Administration and Oversight Committee to help accommodate increased ridership at the rail station.

With Metro expanding eight-car train service and future development anticipated near the station, Metro and Fairfax County proposed the addition of a new stairwell around the existing elevator and alongside the outbound escalator to the platform mezzanine.

Fairfax County will pay for the $2 million construction costs associated with the installation of the new stairwell. The Metro Board will vote on the program at the July 16 Board of Directors meeting.
