Metro applauds subcommittee approval of $150 million for Metro

Statement from Metro General Manager John Catoe

"We are extremely pleased that the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development has approved $150 million for Metro in Fiscal Year 2010, to be matched by contributions from Metro’s local funding partners. Our local congressional delegation has been unwavering in their support for our capital needs, and we are grateful for their efforts. This approval comes at a time of great need for the Metro system. Metro has an estimated $11 billion in capital investment needs over the next decade. We hope for swift approval of this legislation by the full Appropriations Committee, House and Senate.”

“Maintaining the long-standing partnership between Metro and the federal government is key to Metro’s ability to provide the National Capital Region with safe and reliable transit service. This investment will not only help to keep Metro running safely, it will spur economic recovery in the Washington region and across the country through the purchase of parts and materials. We are a long way from the finish line but this is a very positive step forward,” said Metro General Manager John Catoe.
