Takoma Metrorail station to remain open Tuesday and Wednesday

NTSB will not be working in the area tonight or tomorrow

The Takoma Park Metrorail station on the Red Line will remain open all day, from 5 a.m. to midnight, on Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15.

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board informed Metro officials yesterday that they will not be working on the tracks between the Takoma and Ft. Totten Metrorail stations tonight (July 14) or tomorrow (July 15) so the station will not close early as previously announced.

The investigation to try to determine the cause of the June 22 collision of two Metro trains near the Ft. Totten Metrorail station is expected to continue on Thursday night, July 16. The Takoma Metrorail station will close at 10 p.m. with shuttle buses available at Fort Totten, Takoma and Silver Spring Metrorail stations to take people around the station closure.

Metro riders are reminded that all trains on all color lines will be pulling to the front end of all platforms, so riders should check the passenger display signs located both on the platform and at the mezzanine level to determine where they should stand as they wait to board a train. Eight-car trains will fill the entire platform. However, customers will notice that when six-car trains pull into a station that there will be platform space behind the train, so when the signs indicate that a six-car train is pulling into a station, customers should walk toward the center or front of the platform for easier boarding.
