Metro set to celebrate Administrative Professionals on their day this Wednesday, April 23

To recognize a group of employees who make outstanding contributions to the success of the organization, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will sponsor a special program on Wednesday, April 23, for Administrative Professional Day. Individual offices throughout the Authority will recognize its administrative professionals in a variety of ways during Administrative Professional Week which began on Sunday.The celebration on April 23 will begin with a breakfast, followed by guest panelists sharing their thoughts on the Administrative Professional Day theme of " Bridging the Gap " We Are Bridge Builders." Welcome remarks will be presented by William F. Scott, II, the Assistant General Manager for Metro’s Workforce Development and Diversity Programs. Chief Executive Officer Richard A. White will offer congratulatory remarks to the administrative professionals for the outstanding work they do to assist the Authority in attaining its goals." Organizations throughout the nation are greatly enhanced by the hard work and dedication of a group of individuals collectively known as administrative professionals. And Metro is no different in having attained its critically important goals due to the commitment of our colleagues " administrative professionals," stated Mr. White.Metro has nearly 300 employees in the administrative professional category of which 230 are women and 70 are men. In keeping with the celebration of Metrobus" 30th anniversary, those professionals with 30 or more years of service at Metro will be recognized at the special program on Wednesday. The job titles at Metro which are within the administrative professional category are varied and include: secretary, legal secretary, medical secretary, public affairs coordinator, clerk typist, receptionist, office assistant, personnel assistant, administrative assistant, employment assistant, administrative aide, revenue process clerk, support services clerk, storeroom clerk, systems maintenance clerk, operations maintenance clerk, transit sales clerk, personnel files clerk, and consumer and services clerk. Each administrative professional will receive a black briefcase with a variety of gifts from different businesses: mirrors, stress balls, white out, and first aid kits, to name a few. Metro’s official correspondence manual will also be provided to the administrative professionals. The planning group which organized the program was co-chaired by Mary Douglas and Sandy Graves.
