Students from DC, MD, and VA Will See Theirs When They Shadow Metro Employees on National Groundhog Job Shadow Day-this Friday

Metro employees will have local students shadow them on National Groundhog Job Shadow Day tomorrow, Friday, January 31, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. when area senior high school students shadow employees to observe how the skills students learn in school relate to the work place.

" Groundhog Job Shadow Day is the kickoff to a year-long national effort that provides students with an up-close look at how skills learned in school are put into action in the work place," stated Christal A. Murray, Manager in the Special Events office who coordinates this activity at Metro.
Metro mentors allow youth to observe them as they work and, where possible, participate in work activities. To further emphasize the connection between work and school, mentors discuss with students the skills their education provided them to prepare for their Metro jobs.

After an orientation session for mentors and students at 9 a.m. on Friday, mentors will take students to their individual job sites. The group will reconvene for lunch at noon and will learn more about the overall work of Metro during the overview portion of the program immediately after lunch. The program will end at 2:30 p.m.
