Metro announces track work scheduled for this weekend and next week

As part of its ongoing program to improve customer service and continue the repair and rehabilitation of the 26-year-old Metrorail system, Metro will conduct two separate rehabilitation projects this weekend and next week on the Orange and Yellow lines. During this work period, customers’ trips may take longer than usual on the affected line. Please note the following track work scheduled for this weekend: " Orange Line - between Cheverly and Minnesota Avenue. This work will occur on Saturday, August 31, from opening (8 a.m.) until 10 a.m.; Tuesday, September 3, through Thursday, September 5, from 10 p.m. until closing (midnight); and Friday, September 6, from 10 p.m. until closing (2 a.m.). " Yellow Line - between Huntington and Braddock Road. This work will occur on Saturday, August 31, Sunday, September 1, and Monday, September 2, from opening (8 a.m.) until 10 a.m.; Tuesday, September 3, through Thursday, September 5, from 10 p.m. until closing (midnight); and Friday, September 6, from 10 p.m., until closing (2 a.m.). To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains " operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. On the Orange Line, between Cheverly and Minnesota Avenue, and the Yellow Line between Huntington and Braddock Road, Metro personnel will be performing track maintenance. On these segments, customers may experience a delay of five minutes and should allow more time for their trip. Metro sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. To alert customers about this work, regular station and train announcements will be made throughout the Metrorail system.
