Metro announces track work scheduled for this weekend

As part of its ongoing program to improve customer service and continue the repair and rehabilitation of the 26-year-old Metrorail system, Metro will conduct two separate rehabilitation projects this weekend on the Blue and Orange lines. During this work period, customers’ trips may take longer than usual on the affected line.Please note the following track work scheduled for this weekend:" Blue/Orange Line - between McPherson Square and Smithsonian. This work will occur on Friday, January 3 from 10 p.m. to closing (2 a.m.); and Saturday, January 4, from opening (8 a.m.) to closing (2 a.m.)." Blue Line - between Addison Road and Benning Road. This work will occur on Sunday, January 5, from opening (8 a.m.) to closing (midnight).To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains " operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. This weekend on the Blue and Orange lines, Metro personnel will install communication cables. On these segments, customers may experience minor delays and should allow more time for their trip.Metro sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. To alert customers about this work, regular station and train announcements will be made throughout the Metrorail system.
