Metrobus service suspended in Prince Georges Plaza Shopping Center

The last full day of Metrobus service on the grounds of the Prince Georges Plaza Shopping Center will be on Wednesday, May 14, due to the start of the demolition of one store followed by construction work on a larger store that is scheduled to begin on May 15.Starting on Thursday, May 15, all Metrobus routes now serving Prince Georges Plaza Shopping Center will operate on detour routes that will bypass the center. As a result, the primary bus stops for Metrobus Routes 86, C4, F4, F6, F8, R2, R3, and R4 for customers destined to and from the shopping center will be in the Prince George’s Plaza Metrorail station. Until such time as schedules can be adjusted to decrease the time now required to loop through the shopping center, the following arrangements will be in effect to avoid operating ahead of schedule after leaving the station:

  • On trips where Prince George’s Plaza Metrorail station is now served before Prince Georges Plaza Shopping Center, bus operators will remain at their assigned bay in the station and will not depart until their scheduled time for leaving the shopping center.
  • Affected trips are 86 to Calverton; C4 to Twinbrook station (or any short-route trip westbound); F4 and F6 to New Carrollton station; F8 to Langley Park; R2 to Calverton and to Fort Totten station; R3 to Fort Totten station; and R4 to Highview.
  • On trips where Prince George’s Plaza Metrorail station is now served after Prince Georges Plaza Shopping Center, bus operators will consider their scheduled time at the station to be a departure time, not an arrival time.
Affected trips are 86 to Rhode Island Avenue station; F4 and F6 to Silver Spring station; F8 to Cheverly station; R3 to Greenbelt station Monday through Friday; R4 to Brookland station.Where there is a conflict between two or more buses required to lay over at the same bay under the above arrangements, buses will loop around the bus bay island, lay over temporarily where space permits, then return to their assigned bay for departure at the appropriate time so as not to miss waiting passengers.
