Shuttle bus service established during elevator upgrade at Shaw-Howard University Metrorail station

Work expected to take two weeks

Elevator upgrades that relate to the Americans with Disabilities Act will begin Monday, June 2, on the street elevator at the Shaw-Howard University Metrorail station, and is scheduled to be completed in two weeks (back in service on June 17), during which time it will be out of service. A temporary shuttle bus is available for customers who request it. Those customers who normally enter or exit at the Shaw-Howard University Metrorail station should contact the station manager where they enter the system to request the shuttle bus so it can meet them at the U St./African-American Civil War/Cardozo Metrorail station to pick them up and take them to the Shaw-Howard University station. The bus is stationed in the area to accommodate these customers. The ADA upgrades include the repositioning and resizing of the elevator controls to ease use by the disabled community, and the upgrades will add visual and audible information to assist visually impaired and hearing impaired customers.
