Metro’s L" Enfant Plaza station entrance at Maryland Ave. and 7th St., S.W., will be closed this weekend as construction continues on the installation of a canopy over the escalators


Remaining L" Enfant Plaza station entrances will be open

This weekend (May 31st and June 1st), Metro’s L" Enfant Plaza station entrance located at Maryland Ave. and 7th Street S.W., will be closed as construction personnel place a protective deck over the entrance in preparation for the installation of a new canopy.

The remaining two L" Enfant Plaza station entrances will be open this weekend for entry. Those station entrances are located at:

" L" Enfant Plaza Mall Concourse , 9th and D Street, S.W.

" D Street between 6th and 7th Streets, S.W., DOT Courtyard

To alert customers about this project, station and train announcements will be made throughout the Metrorail system, and special messages will appear on the Passenger Information Display Signs located in all Metrorail stations.

As part of the Comprehensive Escalator Canopy Pilot Program, canopies will be installed at four Metrorail Stations: Brookland-CUA, L’Enfant Plaza, Medical Center, and Virginia Square-GMU. Construction is underway at each location, with work expected to be completed by the end of July.

The installation of these canopies is designed to protect Metrorail customers, preserve the exposed escalator system from weather elements, improve escalator reliability, and extend the life span of Metrorail station escalators.
