Metro’s Brookland West station entrance will be closed this weekend as canopy installation continues over the station entrance

Shuttle bus service will be available from the east entrance to the west entrance

This weekend (June 14th and June 15th), Metro’s Brookland West station entrance (closest to Catholic University) on the Red Line will be closed as personnel continue canopy construction at this location.

At the Brookland West station entrance, personnel will construct the permanent structure frame for the canopy to be installed over the station entrance.

Metro will provide free shuttle bus service between Bus Bay A at the east entrance and the west entrance every 15 minutes on the hour during Metrorail service hours while the west entrance remains closed. Shuttle bus service will be available starting at 8 a.m. Conditions permitting, it is anticipated that the entrance will reopen around 9 p.m. on June 14th and June 15th, at which time the shuttle bus service will be discontinued. The Brookland West station entrance will reopen for normal service at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, June 16.

To alert customers about this weekend’s work, station announcements will be made throughout the Metrorail system.

As part of the Comprehensive Escalator Canopy Pilot Program, canopies are being constructed at four Metrorail Stations: Brookland-CUA, L’Enfant Plaza, Medical Center, and Virginia Square-GMU. Construction of all canopies is expected to be completed by the end of July.

The installation of these canopies is designed to protect its customers, preserve the exposed escalator system from weather elements, improve escalator reliability, and extend the life span of Metrorail station escalators.
