Metro’s Brookland-CUA , L" Enfant Plaza, and Virginia Square-GMU station entrances will be closed Saturday, June 28 as canopy installation continues over the station entrances

On Saturday, June 28, Metro’s Brookland-CUA west (closest to Catholic University), L" Enfant Plaza (Maryland Avenue and 7th Street S.W.), and Virginia Square-GMU station entrances will be closed as personnel continue canopy construction at these locations. At these station entrances, personnel will construct the permanent structure frame for the canopy to be installed over the station entrance.

At the Brookland-CUA west station entrance, Metro will provide free shuttle bus service between Bus Bay A at the east entrance and the west entrance every 15 minutes on the hour during Metrorail service hours while the west entrance remains closed. At the Virginia Square-GMU station entrance, free shuttle bus service will be provided between the Ballston-MU station, and the Clarendon station, stopping at the Virginia Square-GMU station approximately every 8 minutes during Metrorail service hours while the entrance is closed.

The L" Enfant Plaza station entrance at Maryland Ave. and 7th Street, S.W., will be closed; however, the L" Enfant Plaza Mall Concourse , 9th and D Street, S.W., station entrance, and the D Street station entrance between 6th and 7th Streets, S.W., DOT Courtyard, will remain open for service. Shuttle bus service for Brookland-CUA west and Virginia Square-GMU will be available starting at 8 a.m. Conditions permitting, it is anticipated that both entrances will reopen around 9 p.m. that same evening, at which time the shuttle bus service will be discontinued.

As part of the Comprehensive Escalator Canopy Pilot Program, canopies are being constructed at four Metrorail Stations: Brookland-CUA, L’Enfant Plaza, Medical Center, and Virginia Square-GMU. Construction of all canopies is expected to be completed by the end of July.
